A hand-tied weft is a thin curtain of hair sewn by hand onto a fine thread. It is attached to a row of small beads that sit flat against your scalp. No glue. No heat at the root. Nothing bonded to individual strands.
Because the hair arrives as a row rather than as single strands, a lot of density goes in at once. If you want noticeably thicker hair and you want it in one appointment, this is the faster route.
The trade is that a row needs hair above it to sit under. Thick hair carries a row easily. Very fine hair often does not, which is where K-tips come in instead.
Mary checks whether your hair can carry a row, and how many. Density, condition, and where your hair is strongest all decide the placement.
Colour is matched in person. If your own colour needs adjusting so the row disappears, that conversation happens before any hair is bought.
Three to five hours. Beads are placed, rows are sewn in, and the hair is cut and blended into your own so there is no shelf and no visible line.

The row is taken down, your hair is cleaned, and the same hair is resewn at the root. This is sooner than K-tips, and it is not optional.

The hair lasts roughly 6 to 12 months with proper care, and often longer. The install needs moving up every 6 to 8 weeks, because the beaded row travels down as your hair grows. The same hair is reused at each move-up until it is genuinely worn.
Every 6 to 8 weeks. That is sooner than K-tips, because a row that has grown out sits away from the scalp, becomes visible, and puts uneven tension on the beads holding it. This is the single most important part of wearing wefts safely.
Not when the rows are placed correctly and moved up on time. There is no glue and no heat at the root. The risk with wefts is weight: too much hair on too few rows, or rows placed where the natural hair cannot support them. That is a stylist decision, made at your consultation, not a flaw in the method.
In most styles, yes, but there is a row to work around. If you live in a high ponytail, K-tips are usually the better answer, because individual strands have no line to hide.
